| USCOM Non-Invasive Cardiac Output Monitor |
| This unique monitor measures cardiac function noninvasively, enabling clinicians to quickly and accurately assess a patient’s cardiac function. The ultrasonic monitor offers real-time, beat-to-beat measurements of 20 markers of cardiovascular function, including cardiac output, stroke volume, systemic vascular resistance, cardiac power, stroke work, and oxygen delivery.The monitor’s transducers utilize high-fidelity continuous-wave Doppler technology to accurately measure cardiac flow. The monitor’s accuracy has been validated in a wide range of cardiac outputs in neonates, infants, children, and adults.
USCOM has an article in Anesthesia and Intensive Care (Jan 2010) which shows that USCOM measures are more than twice as effective as an invasive catheter based measure (CVP) and Blood tests (brain natriuretic peptide; BNP) for detecting fluid responsiveness in septic shock patients.
Summary: USCOM measures are twice as effective as CVP and BNP for identifying fluid responders!
Thiel et al. also found that USCOM fluid management was twice as effective as invasive pressure measurements for guiding fluid. This means anyone currently using fluids should be using USCOM. | Check
